Promethazine, sold under the brand name Phenergan among others, is a first-generation antihistamine, sedative, and antiemetic used to treat allergies, insomnia, and nausea. Promethazine is taken by mouth (oral), as a rectal suppository, or by injection into a muscle (IM).
