Sæmundará

River in Skagafjörður, Iceland

The Sæmundará river is a spring creek on the west side of Skagafjörður, Iceland. It meets up with Vatnsskarð, in Vatnshlíðarvatn and Valadalur, curving to the north as it descends from the mountain pass, and running along the full length of Sæmundarhlíð. At the end of Langholt, it turns toward the east and then runs down along the hay field in Reynistaður, and curves northward again before finally ending in Miklavatn. After the river bends, it is generally called the Staðará river, named after Reynistaður. It is referred to as Sæmundarlækur in the Landnámabók.
