Urban vitality

Intensity of use of an urban area

Urban vitality is the quality of spaces in cities that attract diverse groups of people for a range of activities at different times of the day. Such spaces are often perceived as being active, lively or vibrant, in contrast with low-vitality areas, which may repel people with a lack of aesthetic appeal, large, empty spaces or gaps between buildings, and the prioritization of vehicle movement over places where people would feel comfortable and safe out of their vehicles.
